As we’ve reported previously, federal spending authority for FY 2021 runs out 11 December. While Congress is considering a broad-based spending bill, the agriculture appropriations bill was released by the Senate last week. The bill provides $23.33 billion in annual discretionary funding for USDA. The House passed version of the Ag Appropriations bill is pegged at $23.98 billion. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants.
