Sequester Issues Earlier this summer the federal agencies appeared to be oblivious as to the implications of the fiscal cliff scheduled for 2013. Indeed, they might still be uncertain had Congress not passed the Sequestration Transparency Act of 2012, forcing the Administration to issue a report today detailing its implications. The scheduled reductions vary from -7.6 percent to -8.2 percent, depending on government function. It does not always make sense. For example, crop insurance would be cut -7.6 percent, while food safety and food aid would get dinged -8.2 percent. WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment.
