Canadian voters went to the polls last night. They selected Mark Carney, the current Prime Minister, as the leader of the new government. The writ of election was issued just over a month ago, on 23 March, after Governor General Mary Simon accepted a request to dissolve parliament from Prime Minister Carney. Moreover, this was the first election to use a new 343 seat electoral map based on the 2021 Canadian census. The ruling liberal party is projected to have won the election, forming its fourth consecutive government. However, as of last night, it is unclear if this will be a majority or minority government. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants.
