If realized, it would be the 17th consecutive month that the inventory was larger than the year prior. May placements and marketings are expected to be 95.6 percent and 105.1 percent, respectively, of May 2017 totals. Those marketings supported May beef production at 2.31 billion pounds or 107 percent of May 2017. On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt.
