USDA’s Cattle on Feed report will be released tomorrow. Pre-report estimates from the industry peg the total number of cattle on feed to be 108.5 percent of last year with placements at 99.6 and marketings at 105.5 percent. It should be noted that regarding the placements and marketing estimates, January had one more business day in 2018 than last year. The industry’s expectations were enough to bring some bearish pressure on cattle futures this week, especially in light of today’s Cold Storage report showing red meat supplies in January at 109 percent of December 2017.
