Cattle on Feed It will be no surprise to WPI readers that the industry is expecting a bullish Cattle on Feed report this Friday. Supplies are expected to decline once again from year-ago levels. WPI’s models look for a 1.4 percent reduction in on-feed inventories as of 1 July, which is slightly above the average pre-report estimate from the Dow Jones’ survey. The reason for our forecast being above the average guess is that our placement models suggest a 2.4 percent increase in June placements, whereas the Dow Jones’ survey’s highest estimate was 100 percent of last year.
