Regional News  The latest crop update from the EU Commission’s MARS crop monitoring division reported “broadly satisfactory” conditions across much of the bloc through February. Persistent frost in parts of northern and eastern Europe is a concern for the winter crops, particularly barley and rapeseed, which were not as well insulated by snow cover. The winter wheat crop’s hardening was deemed likely sufficient to protect it against the bitter cold.  Additionally, parts of western Europe are suffering from excessive rains that pose a threat to the spring planting effort, though immediate damage to winter crops is minimal.
