Regional News The EU Commission’s MARS unit cut its forecast of the EU soft wheat yield to 5.54 MT/ha, down from earlier estimates of 5.6 MT/ha. The agency increased its yield expectations for most other crops, however, including corn, rapeseed, and sunflower seeds. This morning, Russia’s IKAR increased its forecast for the 2020 Russian wheat crop to 79.5 MMT, up from last week’s upward revision to 78 MMT. Earlier in the growing season, the agency pegged the Russian crop at 76.5 MMT due to adverse weather conditions. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development.
