Farm Bill Livestock Provisions The Senate Agriculture Committee made short work of the 2018 Farm Bill markup yesterday. A total of 66 amendments (slightly more than a third of the potential 180 that were drafted) were wrapped into a manager’s amendment and adopted by voice vote. The markup was a bipartisan lovefest, and the bill was favorably reported out of committee by a vote of 20-1 with Senator Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) the only opposing vote. On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development.
