MSP Raised for Key CropsIn a bid to incentivize farmers, the government of India (GOI) has announced an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for several of the 2014/15 winter-sown crops including wheat, mustard, barley, chickpeas and masoor (red lentil), etc. The crops will be marketed in the 2015/16 season.The increases, based on the Commission of Agricultural Costs and Price (CACP) recommendations, are nominal as GOI wishes to keep a tab on inflation. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants.
