Slumping Corn Prices, but No Export Feasibility Huge corn arrivals in the market yard have led to a seasonal slump in prices, which is a seasonal trend. Maharashtra has produced at higher crop, and Jalgaon (JLG) is a good market. Corn prices at the market yard are close to $182/MT, below the 2017/18 Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs.14,250/MT ($220/MT). In other locations such as NIzamabad (NZM) in Telangana, the arrivals have ended. Prices are higher there at $210/MT as late rains have also caused some damage. A few farmers are willing to bring stocks from Maharashtra to trade in Nizamabad for a better price. The traders and stockists are not willing to enter the market as yet, though, so there is no bulk buying. Only the end users are bu...
Illuminating the value of technical research
On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging. Educating clients on the dynamics of success measurement when quantifiable results are not readily available requires deep client-consultant collaboration and an ability to consider both near- and long-term client aspirations with market/policy dynamics – attributes that WPI brings to every consulting engagement.
