Congress faces a midnight Friday deadline to pass an omnibus spending bill that funds seven agencies in the federal government, including USDA. Any government shutdown resulting from a failure to do so would only be partial, however, as it would only affect those entities since appropriations bills for five other agencies have already been secured. If federal funding lapses, USDA would operate under the plan it had in place for the last temporary shutdown in January 2018. FSIS/APHIS import and export inspections would continue. WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
