But there’s a surfeit of cattle due to bottlenecks carrying over from last year and drought conditions pushing cattle off of pasture. Paradoxically, cattle slaughter through May was 6 percent above the five-year average, but it has not been enough to boost fed cattle prices. On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt.
