WASDE Today's WASDE shows a total red meat and poultry production up for 2012 over last month's projections, mostly due to pork production. USDA's Quarterly Hogs and Pigs report estimated that the second-half 2011 pig crop was just more than 2 percent larger than 2010's, and indicated that producers plan a slight decline in sows farrowing in the first half of 2012. On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants.
