WPI reminds clients that USDA’s April WASDE will be released this Thursday at 12:00 PM EDT and that the CBOT markets will be closed Friday for Good Friday. The CBOT found some support today with short covering in corn and soybeans while profit taking took wheat lower. Funds were mostly squaring their positions ahead of the April WASDE and the three-day weekend. Funds are estimated to have bought some 6,000 contracts of corn, 1,500 contracts of soybeans, and sold 1,500 contracts of wheat. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants.
