General Comments Today's WASDE contained a little something for everyone. It was considered somewhat bullish for corn, as (not surprisingly) WAOB analysts did not accept that corn feeding during the second quarter declined as precipitously as indicated by the unexpectedly large quarterly corn stocks number from NASS. The 1 March 2012 corn stocks number would have us believe that corn feeding declined at least 300 million bushels, or about 30 percent, below the second quarter of 2011/12 after an implied first quarter corn feeding rate that was about 14 percent higher than during 2011/12. WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
