Wheat The wheat harvest in Argentina has ended with an estimated production of 11.5-12.5 MMT. This is no surprise to the market and compares with a 22 MMT crop from last season. The overall quality has been good, with high test weigh and gluten content, which is good news for local millers who will not have to pay extra to get higher quality wheat. Wheat shortages and government interventions, however, have created major distortions in the market. Exporters have been net sellers of FAS wheat at prices of $340/MT. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants.
