Regional Updates MEDITERRANEAN/MIDDLE EAST/NORTH AFRICA COMMENTS The government of Pakistan has announced that 400,000 MT of wheat will be imported, duty free, to cover the existing wheat shortage and to get wheat flour prices back to a more normal level. The importation will be allowed up until March when the next local wheat crop will be harvested. Syria is taking steps to try to control the fall of its currency value which is down by 50 percent in the past year. Only Syrian pounds will be allowed for transactions in Syria, but it is not certain how this will affect importers who pay in foreign currencies. Weighing in on strategic realignment
WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
