The increased planting may allow the wheat crop to reach 5.2 million MT, assuming good rainfall. Iran is still expected to have to import close to 5 MMT of wheat. Barley planting will be on 1.25 million hectares. Critics in Pakistan are saying that the country is lagging far behind in the use of advanced technology, like GMO, in agriculture. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
