Regional Updates MIDDLE EAST/MEDITERRANEAN COMMENTS The latest USDA-FAS report on Jordan indicates the country will import 1.1 MMT of wheat in 2018/19 along with 750,000 MT of barley and 800,000 MT of corn. The wheat is entirely for flout milling, while the barley and corn are intended for animal feed use. Jordan is a very small producer of grains (mostly wheat) at perhaps 30,000 MT in total, and it depends on imports for 100 percent of its requirements. Both import and consumption levels are quite steady. Jordan is currently completing two silo projects that should greatly help with reserve grain storage: one in Aqaba and another in Amman with capacity for 225,000 MT and 125,000 MT, respectively.
