Two weeks ago, EPA increased the blending requirement for ethanol and biodiesel under its supplemental small refinery exemption (SRE) proposal. More changes, and potentially additional volumes of biofuels, are likely in the new year. EPA has pulled its proposed RFS re-set proposal from OMB, which was sent for review back on 20 May, and will start that process over. The rule was expected to be proposed officially in February 2020. The reset rule was already years late. Under the statute, after 2016, the EPA is required to modify the applicable volumes of the RFS in future years, if the Administrator had waived the overall renewable fuel mandate, the advanced biofuel mandate, the cellulosic biofuel mandate, or the biomass-based diesel manda...
Communicating importance of value-added products
Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
