EU Margarine Industry Lowers Trans Fats Maximum The International Margarine Association of the Countries of Europe (IMACE) has tightened its voluntary code of conduct for to reduce trans fat content in margarine. The association now says margarine manufacturers should not produce margarine that contains more than 2 percent trans fat at retail. The previous standard was for a maximum of 5 percent trans fat. IMACE indicates the voluntary code of conduct has already resulted in the average trans fat content in margarine from 7.1 percent in 2004 to only 1.7 percent now.
