U.S. Soy Export Sales Highlights Today’s USDA export sales report for the week ending 11 April indicated U.S. soybean sales were up from the previous week. However, they were far below what is needed to reach USDA’s forecast for 2018/19. Net soybean exports sales for shipment in 2018/19 totaled 382,100 MT, up 42 percent from the previous week but 46 percent below the past four-week average. The top sales were to unknown destinations (170,600 MT), South Korea (48,700 MT), Indonesia (46,600 MT), Japan (45,700 MT) and Colombia (23,100 MT). WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
