The latest OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook plots the growth outlook to 2033 for the major animal proteins and with little surprise, poultry expands its lead. With a per annum growth rate of 1.4 percent, poultry production expands at nearly three times the rate of increased pork production. However, the surprise is that the trend regression shows beef production expanding at a CAGR of 1.1 percent, albeit from a smaller base. On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development.
