Russia Meat Trade: Ractopamine or Oil Prices? Russia is extending its ban on North American meat exports. It announced on Monday that about 50 percent of all Canadian meat processors and 80 percent of all Mexican meat processors will be banned from shipping pork and beef to Russia because of supposed ractopamine use. The ban includes plants that process animals fed ractopamine, a drug used to make animal muscle more lean, even if the export shipment lots were segregated and ractopamine-free.
