The largest U.S. dairy organization asked the Trump Administration to challenge Canada under the USMCA’s dispute settlement process for failing to abide by that agreement’s market access provisions. Now that request has been handed off to the Biden Administration which was politically supported by labor unions and the National Farmers Union (NFU), both of which oppose challenging Canada. The NFU has for years sought a Canadian-style supply management system for American farmers.
