Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) continues to wreak havoc. So far this week (and it is only Wednesday), APHIS announced an outbreak in Texas in a commercial pheasant flock, there are three more suspected cases in North Carolina, and an outbreak of HPAI has been reported to APHIS from Iowa authorities; that case is a 5,011,726 bird broiler flock in Iowa – the second 5 million bird flock hit (the other was a layer operation). Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants.
