Vietnam’s soymeal use has been rising at about 7 percent per year. However, the outbreak of African Swine Fever has caused a drop-off in pork production and a concurrent increase in chicken output. Since poultry is more efficient than swine at conversion of plant protein into muscle tissue, the drop in the rate of increase in soymeal is understandable.  In 2018, pork production fell by 14.6 percent while poultry production increased by 10 percent. Soymeal consumption rose by just 1.2 percent. In 2020, pork production is forecast to fall by 5.25 percent while poultry output rises by 5.4 percent.
