Alternative proteins have become the rage in food processing, though there is now an argument that Americans have switched back to more traditional foods as a form of comfort during the current crisis. Alternatively, protein crops like peas should be higher in demand when traditional meat supplies become tight due to labor problems in fabrication plants. U.S. peas are currently priced seasonally similar to last year at this time, tending to be elevated in late fall/early winter due to holidays and perhaps consumption of more stews in cold weather. Weighing in on strategic realignment
WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
