Socialism and capitalism successfully coexist but it is dependent on private businesses retaining a degree of independence, certainty about the rules, and not being starved of its fundamental grease – capital. The Party may well achieve the perfect mix of shared wealth and continued growth, in which case western democracies will increasingly be on the defensive, but there are no preexisting successful models.
