USDA held total red meat and poultry production steady in today’s WASDE. Broiler production was reduced 0.33 percent from last month based on hatchery data and the rate of production, but that was offset by a light increase in beef, particularly from non-fed slaughter as beef cows are being culled (though dairy cow slaughter is down) and a 0.55 percent increase in pork production. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development.
