Very strong winds are reportedly causing docking and visibility difficulties due to sand and dust storms. Egypt normally experiences strong khamaseen winds from February to March, but they seem to be a bit early this year. Khamaseen refers to the number 50 in Arabic as the winds are common for about 50 days during Egypt’s spring. Turkey also suffered from bad weather, and the Bosporus Strait was closed over the weekend for safety reasons. This has delayed grain shipments from the Black Sea for a few days. WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
