Mediterranean/Middle East/North Africa/Africa – MEA Region Tunisia’s 2026 winter crop planting started a little late due to a lack of rainfall, but this improved in January as rainfall caught up. Winter wheat and barley crops are expected to be good for the harvest later in 2026. 2025 grain production was up by 12 percent — wheat production reached 1.25 million MT, with barley at 380,000 MT. Wheat production for 2025 is almost 27 percent above the five-year average, with barley about 5 percent above the five-year average. 2026 wheat imports are seen down by about 3 percent to 2.0 MMT. Total imports of all grains in 2025/26 are forecast to reach 3.65 MMT. Pakistan’s PASSCO grain agency is being investigated in relatio...
Illuminating the value of technical research
On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging. Educating clients on the dynamics of success measurement when quantifiable results are not readily available requires deep client-consultant collaboration and an ability to consider both near- and long-term client aspirations with market/policy dynamics – attributes that WPI brings to every consulting engagement.
