Mediterranean/Middle East/North Africa/Africa – MEA Region Middle Eastern countries have imported an average of close to 29 million MT of grains and feed products per year over the past five years according to an Ag Perspectives report. These include wheat, corn, barley, soybeans, soymeal, and DDGS. Iran was the largest importer, followed by Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iraq and UAE. Corn is the main import at about 12.0 MMT followed by wheat at 8.7 MMT then barley at 6.2 MMT, soymeal at 3.9 MMT, and soybeans at 3.2 MMT. Weighing in on strategic realignment
WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
