Mediterranean/Middle East/North Africa/Africa – MEA Region Egypt has seen a sharp rise in wheat prices due to increased shipping costs and the 9 percent drop in the value of Egypt’s currency. Wheat prices in Egypt are said to be up by as much as $24/MT. Both ocean freight costs and local transportation costs are much higher, and soybean and maize prices are being affected as much as wheat. Egypt and Indonesia are both close to becoming the world’s largest wheat importers. Both countries are forecast to import as much as 13 million MT of wheat each in 2025/26.
