Mediterranean/Middle East/North Africa/Africa – MEA Region Egypt is closing several collection centers for this year’s wheat crop due to a drop in available wheat for purchase. At the end of last week, the total government purchases were at a little over 3.9 MMT against the government target of 4 to 5 MMT. The lower-than-expected government wheat purchases could result in increased wheat imports being required in 2025. Egypt reportedly purchased “several hundred thousand” tons of wheat in private negotiations through Mostakbal Misr. The wheat is said to be from Ukraine, Russia, and Romania.
