Regional Updates MEDITERRANEAN/MIDDLE EAST/NORTH AFRICA An atlas of Global Surface Water has just been published which shows the changes in surface water supply in the last 35 years – more than 4 million satellite images were analyzed along with data from the Google Earth platform. The atlas does show a decrease in surface water in many areas much of which seems to be due to the use of water resources for crop irrigation. In some countries, major lakes from 35 years ago have totally disappeared. Lake Razzaza in Iraq is a good example of this – it was once Iraq’s largest freshwater lake but is now an almost dry, high salt level, pool of water. Weighing in on strategic realignment
WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments. On behalf of numerous clients, WPI has not only assisted in identifying strategic paths but also advised their implementation.
