Mediterranean/Middle East/North Africa/Africa – MEA Region Turkey is reportedly buying Russian grain once again due to lower wheat production this year – production of wheat dropped from 21 MMT in 2023/24 to an expected 16.3 MMT in 2025/26 – due to severe drought. Turkey’s TMO grain agency has recently purchased 300,000 MT of Russian wheat to supplement local crops. Total wheat imports from Russia by TMO and the private sector are up to 880,000 MT at the end of October. Turkey has exported as much as 1.6 MMT of durum wheat as seen in 2023/24 or 700,000 MT as was in 2024/25, but for 2025/26 durum exports are seen as dropping to 200,000 MT. Weighing in on strategic realignment
WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
