The increase is due to the expected 13 percent drought-related drop in barley production this year. Turkey’s imports of barley so far in 2025 have increased from 2024’s level of 36,000 MT to 233,000 MT. Turkey’s wheat production for 2025/26 is also forecasted to be lower — down 15 percent — at 16.3 million MT. On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt.
