Regional Updates MEDITERRANEAN/MIDDLE EAST/NORTH AFRICA/AFRICA – MEA REGION On 31 December, Turkey’s official Gazette published details of the approval of MON810 maize for a new period of 10 years for importation for feed use. Turkey’s government had “reimposed” a ban on MON810 genetically modified maize. MON810 maize has been allowed for importation since 2013. Turkey has been an importer of close to 1 MMT of USA DDGS. Pakistan has increased the price of wheat flour, sugar and ghee that are being sold in its “utility” stores. Wheat flour prices are up by 62 percent, sugar by 27 percent and ghee by 25 percent. Consistent with WPI's findings, local production to supply the plant and the facility's output have expanded exponentially since the investment.
