Regional Updates MEDITERRANEAN/MIDDLE EAST/NORTH AFRICA Tunisia’s government expects the grain crop this year will be 1.07 MMT of durum wheat, 0.16 MMT of soft wheat, and 0.40 MMT of barley. The overall total is up by 7 percent on last year. The U.S. Grains Council has been working with an Egyptian corn starch company to improve efficiency and profitability. U.S. starch production experts have been consulting in Egypt and analyzed existing production methods and facilities. A USGC study on starch production says that U.S. corn has a 3 to 4 percent higher yield of starch versus corn from other origins. Weighing in on strategic realignment
WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
