India Expected to Raise Vegoil Tariff Rates Undisclosed sources in India’s government have told Reuters that officials are considering a hike in the tariff rates for some edible oils in the next few days. They apparently referenced soyoil, rapeseed and sunflower oil specifically. The current Indian tariff rates are 30 percent for soyoil, and 25 percent for rapeseed oil and sunflower oil. For many years, the government of India (GOI) has raised and lowered vegoil tariffs in a balancing act that favors either consumers or farmers. When global vegoil prices are high, it has lowered tariffs to ease the impact on consumers while raising them to please farmers when prices are low. Consistent with WPI's findings, local production to supply the plant and the facility's output have expanded exponentially since the investment.
