U.S. Soy Export Sales Highlights Today’s USDA export sales report showed exporters had great success selling U.S. soybeans for export in the week ending 16 July. However, sales of soymeal and soyoil were not that good. Net soybean export sales last week totaled 365,200 MT for shipment in 2019/20 and 2,300,500 MT for export in 2020/21. The sales for 2019/20 shipment primarily were for China (209,900 MT), the Netherlands (127,700 MT), Egypt (40,700 MT), Peru (13,000 MT), and Japan (12,000 MT). Those sales and others were partially offset by reductions for unknown destinations (63,000 MT) and Mexico (18,500 MT). WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
