U.S. Soy Export Sales Highlights Today’s USDA export sales report showed exporters had great success selling U.S. soybeans for export in the week ending 16 July. However, sales of soymeal and soyoil were not that good. Net soybean export sales last week totaled 365,200 MT for shipment in 2019/20 and 2,300,500 MT for export in 2020/21. The sales for 2019/20 shipment primarily were for China (209,900 MT), the Netherlands (127,700 MT), Egypt (40,700 MT), Peru (13,000 MT), and Japan (12,000 MT). Those sales and others were partially offset by reductions for unknown destinations (63,000 MT) and Mexico (18,500 MT). Illuminating the value of technical research
On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging. Educating clients on the dynamics of success measurement when quantifiable results are not readily available requires deep client-consultant collaboration and an ability to consider both near- and long-term client aspirations with market/policy dynamics – attributes that WPI brings to every consulting engagement.
