Big U.S. Soy Export Sales Last Week Today’s USDA export sales report indicated exporters made very large sales of soybeans and soymeal in the week ending 3 October. However, sales and exports of soyoil continued to be very small. Net soybean export sales last week totaled 2,092,500 MT for shipment in 2019/20. As expected, the top sales were for China (1,177,700 MT). The other large sales were for unknown destinations (210,000 MT), Spain (207,300 MT), Taiwan (78,900 MT), and the United Kingdom (59,700 MT). The sale to the UK included 58,000 MT switched from Egypt. USDA also indicated 3,000 MT of soybeans were sold to Japan for shipment in 2020/21. Soybean exports last week totaled 1,038,500 MT. WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
