U.S. Soy Export Sales Highlights Today’s USDA/FAS export sales report indicated the week ending 22 October was a fairly good one for exporters of U.S. soybeans, but less so for sales of soymeal and soyoil. New sales of all three commodities were down from the previous week. Net soybean export sales for shipment in 2020/21 totaled 1,620,700 MT. That was 35 percent below the past four-week average. The top sales were for China (1,073,900 MT), Mexico (178,700 MT), the Netherlands (175,600 MT), Egypt (153,400 MT), and Singapore (65,100 MT). The sale to Singapore obviously was actually to another country and will be corrected later. Exporters also reported the sale of 9,000 MT of soybeans for Japan to be exported in 2021/22. Illuminating the value of technical research
On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging. Educating clients on the dynamics of success measurement when quantifiable results are not readily available requires deep client-consultant collaboration and an ability to consider both near- and long-term client aspirations with market/policy dynamics – attributes that WPI brings to every consulting engagement.
