USDA’s survey-based Costs and Returns analysis for U.S. crops will not be updated until 2 May 2022, but it already looks like farming is more profitable than it was. Crop values are higher, but so are input costs, especially for fertilizer and chemicals. Still, based on back of the envelope estimates, the value of growing corn will go up the most. Wheat production still shows a negative outcome, but these are national average numbers, and a lot of wheat is grown on marginal acres.   The final numbers may prove to be quite different, but they are still likely to be an improvement.  ...
