Cheap Turkish flour, which has plagued much of the world for the last decade, has found its way into the Caribbean. Haiti has been targeted, and the problem is becoming significant. That particular flour is reportedly being sold at $280/MT, and the landed wheat price in Haiti (according to one flour miller there) is about $320/MT. Thus, it is a major problem if someone is selling flour at a $40/MT discount to wheat. U.S. Wheat Associates and many other concerned trade associations around the world have been combating the Turkish flour problem but with limited success. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development.
