Last Monday's crop progress report showed that 71 percent of the U.S. 2013 winter wheat crop has been planted. That is exactly on the five-year average for this date. USDA will not give us its official estimate of how winter wheat was planted until the second week in January, but our opinion today is that winter wheat acreage will be up from the current year with soft red winter wheat acres significantly higher.
